Within 3 months of becoming a resident of New York, I enrolled at LaGuardia CC, won the affection of my peers and was quickly elected as the President of the Black Student Union.
With a strong team and backing from advocates in the LaGuardia CC administration, we set to the task of transitioning a $1,500 fashion show into a $17,000 production with a mission of helping students wanting careers in fashion, media and entertainment gain valuable insight by working alongside professionals to produce the event.
The event was a success, with over 770 in attendance.
To this day I am proud to see students who were shy evolve and now owners of their own clothing lines, designers and having careers in fashion and media.
I then went on to found a chapter for Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) and Alecia Keys’s Keep-a-Child-Alive on the campus
